Key exercise 2 of 3: Exhale Block Steps

  1. Take a normal inhale then exhale fully
  2. At the end of the exhale pinch your nose shut and hold your breath
  3. Walk at a normal pace and count your steps until you need to inhale

Note: If you feel dizzy at the end of this exercise sit down and drink a glass of water with dissolved 1/3 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

The total steps count of your Exhale Block Steps denotes your fatigue, muscular efficiency and asthma susceptibility at the present moment:
1 – 10 steps: extremely susceptible
10 – 20 steps: highly susceptible
20 – 30 steps: moderately susceptible
30+ steps: less susceptible
Note: For a well-trained asthmatic athlete 30+ steps is possible, but generally the EBC will be low, indicating asthma susceptibility

A key goal for an asthmatic child or teen is to build their steps count to 60+ over the course of 4 weeks.
